Fullfilling a dream

While I have loved being a doula, and likely will not stop serving couples in that capacity anytime soon, I am so excited to announce that I have turned in my application to become a certified practicing midwife. My first module or course will be early April in San Antonio Texas. I have found a midwife willing to be my preceptor and now I am apprencticing with her. I got to go to my first birth with her yesterday the 14th of January. I was reminded why I have chosen to persue my dream of being a midwife. Birth is amazing. It is a miracle at the very least and I am honored to be learning and working toward this dream.
For my families that I have served as a doula, I thank you for allowing me to support you. All of my experiences have helped make this dream a reality.
I love you all.

Welcome baby Dylan ~Nov. 21, 2008

I had the pleasure of taking maternity photos for this mom and just a week and a half later taking photographs of the birth. She had a VERY FAST labor and birth; just 2.5 hours from start to finish. She deserved it for baby #5. Big Congratulations on a job well done. Please welcome baby Dylan. Born November 21, 2008, he was 7lb 13oz & 21 1/4 inches.

Newborn Pics

The day after attending my friends wonderful birth I got to take a few newborn photographs as well. Mom and baby were tired so we will finish up the shoot soon. Enjoy!

See Post below for Labor and Birth Details and Pictures!

A beautiful birth

I had the wonderful privaledge of attending the birth of a long time friend of mine. This was baby #4. Her first was a c-section for breech, #2 was a very fast vaginal delivery in the hospital, #3 was a difficult home waterbirth, and finally this little babe was to be born at a birth center with a midwife.
Mom called at 4am and said her water had broken and her contractions were more like cramps. I waited at home and got the kids ready for school. I made it to her around 10am. Things were still smooth and slow. Mom and I took some maternity photos since we were scheduled to do that the next day. Mom rested a lot and talked on the phone to update her midwife. We left for the birth center around 2:30 and arrived after 3pm It wasn't long after arriving that mom began to feel the urge to push. Mom continued to recieve awesome support from her midwife and I was able to snap some photos. Baby was born into mamas hands at 4:06pm 8lb 15oz and 20 1/2 in.
Gorgeous baby girl.

The TODAY Show on NBC plans to feature information about doulas this Thursday, November 13, 2008.

As was previously announced, the segment was scheduled for November 6th but it got bumped. We hope it will not be bumped again!

Debbie Aglietti, a DONA certified doula, was the birth doula for a producer at the TODAY Show. The conversation will be about the benefits of doulas, as well as a statement from a hospital that has had trouble with doulas in the past. We all look forward to seeing information about doulas on a major TV show!
